Puppy & Kitten Visits

It is important to get the new members of your family off to a good start. Most puppies and kittens need a series of visits spaced 3-4 weeks apart. These visits will include physical examinations, vaccinations, checking for intestinal parasites, advice on diet and training, and initiating heartworm and flea/tick prevention. We typically are able to provide free samples of preventatives (such as heartworm medicine), a leash, educational materials, and other items.

Please provide to our professional staff any prior medical history to include any vaccinations already received.

Be sure to bring a fresh stool sample to your first appointment to check for parasites.

Adult Pet Visits

Once dogs and cats become adults, vaccinations are no longer one-size-fits-all. We customize your pet’s vaccine recommendations based on their lifestyle, exposure risk, home environment, breed, and past vaccination history. In this way, your pet only gets what they really need and is not subjected to a cookie-cutter approach to medicine that is utilized by many corporate practices.

There is great variability in the vaccines made by different manufacturers. We select vaccine brands and types that are considered to be the safest by leading independent researchers in veterinary medicine rather than the ones that are the least expensive. Physical examinations catch many problems that may have gone undetected by pet owners, such as dental disease and heart murmurs. Annual blood tests establish baseline normal values for your pet and help us screen for diseases before your pet starts acting sick.

Internal Parasite Screening

Our yearly “heartworm test” not only tests for the presence of heartworms. It also screens your dog for exposure to Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, and Lyme Disease, three tick-borne diseases.

Annual fecal examinations are performed by the “centrifugation” technique, which results in more accurate results than the older “floatation” technique still performed at many hospitals. The Companion Animal Parasite Council recommends looking for intestinal parasites yearly because some can be passed to people.

Senior Wellness Care

Your pet is considered to be a “senior citizen” at 6 to 9 years of age, depending on size and breed. These pets require additional preventative care such as bloodwork, blood pressure checks, glaucoma screening, wellness exams every six months, and possibly a change in diet. Early detection of health problems results in earlier intervention, which often leads to a longer and healthier life for your pet, a better quality of life, and can reduce the overall cost of care for your pet.

Wellness Plans

In many cases, a Wellness Plan is a good choice for your member of the family. This covers all the care they need for the year. Prepaid Plans give you a 10% discount, and Monthly Plans give you the convenience of monthly payments. There are wellness plans for all stages of life, and we are happy to advise you which plan is best for your pet.
