Veterinarian/Owner
Dr. Kathy Kallay
Dr. Kathy Kallay believes that animals should be cared for in a conscientious, responsible manner. Education is an important part of her relationship with clients because better-informed clients have longer, healthier relationships with their pets. As the owner of Four Paws, she is committed to providing exceptional customer service and the highest quality medical care.
Dr. Kallay’s medical interests include Internal Medicine, Behavior, Dentistry, and Surgery. She has received advanced training in all of these disciplines. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and Phi Zeta, a veterinary honor society.
Outside of work, she enjoys reading, walking her dogs, kayaking on our local waterways, and painting. She is also an avid photographer and has won multiple awards in amateur competitions. In the Fall of 2018, she started learning Spanish. Ella estudia cada dia.
A native of Southern California, she moved to Fredericksburg in 2001 following graduation from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. She has been practicing veterinary medicine locally since 2001. Four Paws opened in 2006 as a result of her desire to provide high quality, compassionate, and professional hospital closer to her home in Spotsylvania County.
Dr. Kallay adopted all of her pets from animal shelters or rescue groups: Hobbes, a 7-year old all-around mutt, Willow, a 7-year old Border Collie mix, and Domino, an adult black and white domestic shorthaired cat.
Community service is a way of life for Dr. Kallay. She has been a puppy-raiser for Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) and has performed therapy visits in the community with her previous dog Scarlett. She was a Big Sister with Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters and volunteered with Team River Runner helping wounded veterans.

Veterinarian
Dr. Cara Langfitt
I have loved and had an interest in animals since I was little and that naturally developed into a veterinary career goal. From my start as a kennel assistant at a veterinary clinic in high school, my hobbies and summer jobs have always involved animals. This included summers raising fawns at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, IA, working at a wildlife rehab center in Milwaukee, and working at a small animal emergency hospital. I graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in animal ecology and graduated from ISU’s college of veterinary medicine in 2010. I worked at a small animal clinic in Missouri for 12 years, and am happy for the opportunity to continue practicing in Virginia. When I’m not working, I enjoy being outside as much as possible and love to hike and bike. I’m looking forward to exploring Virginia.
Veterinary Assistant
Susie
Susie is a first generation Salvadoran-American who was born and raised in Fredericksburg. Ever since Susie got her first dog in 2004, she knew she wanted to work with animals. Susie’s veterinary medicine endeavors began in 2020 working as a receptionist/assistant at a small non-profit clinic. During this time, Susie also assisted the local shelter by fostering lots of stray kittens who needed to adapt to life with humans.
Outside of work, Susie enjoys crocheting, all things Hello Kitty, exploring new cities and of course, spoiling her four fur babies.

Courtney
Courtney is a California native and moved to VA with her military family at the age of 17. For as long as she can remember, she has had compassion and a fierce love for animals, rescuing her first pet when she was just 6 years old. Since 2016, she has volunteered at shelters, worked at kennels, trained obedience and bird-dogs; eventually finding her way to Four Paws in 2022. Courtney has a scaredy-cat German Shepherd, a beagle whose nose never leaves the ground, and a Leopard Gecko!
When Courtney isn’t helping pet parents at the hospital, she’s spending time with her little boy or singing way too loudly in the car! Courtney loves to spend time at the beach, will read anything she can get her hands on, and “lazy movie nights” at home.

Katie
I am a life-long Virginia resident, raised primarily in the Fredericksburg area. My love for all animals goes back as far as I can remember growing up around animals of all shapes and sizes including dogs, cats, birds, pigs, and cows. I began my vet med journey about 2 years ago, and now cannot imagine doing anything else with my working career. I am truly passionate about animal care, helping pet owners, and ensuring the best possible experience for every patient who visits our hospital. In my free time I like to bake, sing, and watch cooking shows and scary movies. Overall, I just enjoy spending time with my loved ones and furry/feathered babies. I have two pups, a Pomchi and a Chiweenie, as well as a yellow cockatiel who can sing and beatbox!

Amy
Amy began working at Four Paws all the way back in 2007, just a year after Four Paws opened their doors! She worked at Four Paws while pursuing her degree in Geology at the University of Mary Washington. After completing her degree in 2008, she stayed at Four Paws for an additional year, leaving (somewhat reluctantly) in 2009 to take a job in her field of study.
Although she enjoyed her time working in her field of study, she missed the pets and people she encountered daily during her employment at Four Paws. She has always had a passion for helping animals. When it was time for a change in career paths, she reached out to Four Paws. Amy is thrilled to be back on the team again helping pets and their humans.
In her free time, Amy enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, cuddling with her pets, reading, and watching tv/movies.
Hospital Administrator
CR Barrett
Cindy’s two great loves are veterinary medicine and accounting! Her journey to Four Paws Animal Hospital has been circuitous, having first managed veterinary hospitals in California, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Maine. Cindy graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA in 1993 with a B.B.A. in accounting. Following graduation, she gained experience in the field of accounting while still maintaining her position as a veterinary practice manager.
In 1997, Cindy joined the Ohio accounting firm of Owen E. McCafferty, CPA, a firm specializing in veterinary tax, accounting, and consulting. While employed with Owen McCafferty, she sat for and passed the CPA exam in 1998. In 2003, Cindy joined the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) as a Practice Consultant. AAHA is a voluntary professional association designed to help veterinary hospitals achieve outstanding standards of medicine. After spending several years in the accounting/consulting arena, Cindy returned to private veterinary practice. “One of the most wonderful things about Four Paws Animal Hospital & Wellness Center, aside from the great doctors and staff, is that it is privately owned. Our ability to be truly creative, innovative, and flexible is due to that fact. I feel privileged to be part of this great team!” When not working, Cindy enjoys just about everything, especially her dog Sky, her three “special-needs” kitties, and two baby mice.
Practice Manager
Stephanie S.
Stephanie joined as Practice Manager in 2013, coming to us with 13 years of human medical management experience. Her genuine love for fur babies, their people, and her great team at Four Paws shines daily in her role as Practice Manager.

Veterinary Nurse
Robyn , RVT
Things clients might like to know about you: I am extremely passionate about my career, and love learning new things with the changing of medicine. I am a foster parent. I am originally from California. I have a brother who lives in Australia. I have a pet
treat (and human treat) business outside of vet med. I think spiders are absolutely adorable.
Outside of veterinary medicine I like to: Spend time with my kids, bake, spend time on the lake, hike, and travel.
Fun veterinary fact: It is a well-believed myth that dogs are colorblind. In fact, they can see color – just in dull hues!
My favorite animal is: Turtles! I have always been mesmerized by their nature. I just love them.
One unique fact about me is: I have a brain malformation they didn’t find until I was in my 20’s!
Veterinary Nurse
Brittany, LVT
Outside of veterinary medicine I like to: READ! I read on average 10 books a month!
My favorite animal is the sloth because they remind me of my husband.
My favorite veterinary fact is: Most food allergies for animals are to the protein source of the food NOT grain, gluten, or corn. Grain-free diets are now scientifically proven to cause heart disease!
One unique fact about me is: My human children’s names were inspired by the show ‘The Office’

Client Service Representative
Amber M.
Beginning at a young age, Amber would wander into the nearest neighbor’s yard with arms outstretched whenever there was a cat or dog within eyesight. Amber’s love for animals grew as veterinary and agriculture classes became available in high school, which then led to an opportunity for volunteer work with livestock on farms and during state fairs. This also led to her very first job in 2014, looking after an alpaca farm! Since then, Amber has had eight years of experience in the veterinary field, ranging from rescues to kennels and animal hospitals. As her love for animals and veterinary medicine grew, so did her goals within the field, and she is currently enrolled in the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician Program!
When Amber isn’t loving on furbabies, or answering your questions to help you and your furbabies, she is spending time at home with her daughter, pit-husky mix, broken otter bunny, and her four feline friends!
